Looking back on the history of Move or Die, how everything started and what to expect in the future!

We are slowly approaching a point where we’ll be able to play a proper online match with all the game modes. Everything is slowly coming together and hopefully by next week, we’ll already have a fully working build with networking.

However, since networking is rather slow and doesn’t show much visual progress, let’s take a second to look back on how “Party Mode” looked when we first started to implement it.

Beginning

The player colors were certainly different. they all spawned from the same checkpoint and there was no arena, they were running around a random Concerned Joe level. But hey, we had multiple players in the engine!

This is how the “multiple players spawning menu” looked like. You would click on a player to spawn it and then you could change it’s input.

There was also a “Mode selection” dropdown list. From here you picked what type of game you wanted to play, back then it was only Stomp and Bomb Tag if I remember correctly.

We’ve come a long way…

But let’s change the subject, let’s talk about game modes. I have a list where I write down ideas for game modes as they pop in my head. They are not polished in any way, they are simply quick ideas written down in a doc so I can go back to them later on and make them into fully fledged game modes.

Game Modes

We’d love to get your feedback on these! Which sounds the most interesting to you?
And if you’d have a game mode idea, what it would sound like?

Last time we asked you guys for ideas for mods, we got a slew of amazing and creative ideas. For example, the “Fast Fall” on the list and the already implemented in-game “Color Craze” are inspired by the ideas of forum user “Woot“. Even if we couldn’t implement all the ideas, we really love reading and toying around with them when we have the chance to do so. <3

That’s about it for this Monday. Don’t forget to be awesome!
